FAQs

Customs Clearance

Questions

What is customs clearance and why do I need it?

Customs clearance is the process of getting your freight approved to enter a country. For international tradeshow shipments, it's required before your exhibit can be delivered to the venue. Without it, your freight doesn't move.

What is an ATA Carnet and do I need one?

An ATA Carnet is an international customs document that allows goods to be temporarily imported for tradeshows without paying duties. If you're exhibiting abroad and bringing materials back home, a Carnet can save you significant money. We'll tell you whether it applies to your situation.

How long does customs clearance take?

It varies by country, shipment type, and documentation completeness. Most shipments clear in 1-3 business days with proper paperwork — which is why we prepare everything correctly the first time.

What happens if my freight gets held in customs?

We monitor the clearance process and respond immediately if there's a hold. Most holds are documentation-related and can be resolved quickly. We'll communicate with you throughout and work to get your freight released as fast as possible.

What documents do you need from me?

At minimum: a commercial invoice, packing list, and details about your exhibit contents and value. For ATA Carnet shipments, additional information is required. We'll give you a full checklist when you book.
